SHASTA (AKA "MONKEY") AND RADAR
Shasta and Radar perform the dual duties of Security
Staff and resident Couch Potatoes at Morency Farm.
Shasta is a
dark brown/brindle female that we think is a Boxer/Pit mix. We adopted
her in December 2007 at about 4 mo. old. She was found by our good
friends roaming their neighborhood as a stray. She is the first dog
we've owned as adults. She is high-energy and a huge licking love
machine. We named her Shasta originally, but she looks and acts more
like a Monkey, so that nickname has really stuck.
We adopted
Radar from the Pierce County Animal Shelter in April 2008. The Shelter
had found him roaming and estimated him to be around a year old and most
likely a Heeler/Pit mix. This picture of him is unusual in that his ears
are rarely folded downward like that. He has huge cattle-dog ears and
most often one is up and one is down. We named him Radar because even
when he sleeps, he always has one ear up like a big radar dish. He is a
very sweet boy and he and Shasta make great companions for each other,
they play and play and play!
Besides the Obedience and Agility
classes we've taken with the dogs, we have learned a huge amount from
Cesar Millan, the "Dog
Whisperer", and commend him for all he's done to help educate the
public about Pit Bull Terriers and Pit Mixes and the wonderful, loving
companions they can be. Training, living with, and learning from these
dogs has been one of the most rewarding experiences we could ever have
imagined.
