SHASTA
(AKA "MONKEY")
Shasta performs the dual duties of Security Staff and resident Couch
Potato at Morency Farm. She is a dark brown/brindle female that we think
is a Boxer/Pit mix. We adopted her in December 2007 at about 4 mo. old.
She was found by our friends roaming their neighborhood as a stray. She
is high-energy but looks forward to her couch and TV time with her
family. We named her Shasta originally, but she looks and acts more like
a Monkey, so that nickname has really stuck. One look into her deep
brown eyes and you won't mind so much if she takes off with your sock or
slipper.
DUKE
(AKA "DOOKIE")
We adopted Duke as a puppy in April 2011. He is a Pit
Bull or Pit Bull mix. We adopted him from
DRAW (Dog Rescue Around Washington).
The DRAW Rep brought him to our house so we could see how he would get
along with the whole family and in our home environment. Needless to
say, he was very easy to fall in love with. He is smart, gentle, and
very goofy. Our young children pronounced his name "Dookie" and the term
of endearment seemed appropriate. He has always been very comfortable
with and respectful of our children (besides occasionally wanting to
French kiss them) and is truly a giant licking love machine.
Note:
We have learned a tremendous amount from
Cesar Milan, "The Dog Whisperer."
We commend him on his dog training methods and for his efforts to raise
public awareness and education regarding Pit Bulls and Pit Bull
mixed-breeds. All dogs need responsible owners and proper training. Pit
Bull Terriers are no different. Neither are Dobermans, German Sheperds,
Rottweilers, or other breeds often labeled as "inherently" dangerous.
Please speak out against the unfairness of Breed-Specific Legislation.
